What

sein (be), 2016/22 Metallized foil, fans, Arduino

"sein" is an atmospheric installation featuring three large, golden-hued spheres. These inflatables, imbued with life through a carefully orchestrated system, exhibit a rhythmic breathing motion. Positioned at varying heights, the spheres seem to pulse gently, creating a captivating dance of expansion and contraction.

The spheres' rounded forms embody a sense of completeness and unity, their reflective golden surfaces catching and dispersing light in a myriad of directions. This interaction with light transforms the surrounding space into a dynamic play of shadows and glimmers, constantly shifting with the spheres' movements.

The gentle, cyclical motion of the spheres mirrors natural patterns found in the breathing of living organisms, the ebb and flow of tides, or the swaying of trees in a breeze. The subtle sound of the foil moving adds an auditory dimension, further enhancing the immersive, meditative quality of the installation.

"sein" invites viewers to engage deeply with the present moment, offering a serene escape from the noise and haste of daily life. The gentle oscillations of the spheres evoke a sense of calm and introspection, encouraging a contemplative experience.

The installation's design pays homage to experiments in the Utah desert in 2016, where similar spheres were made to be entered and moved around in. However, in "sein", the focus shifts to the external interaction. Observing the spheres' tranquil motion and the play of light on their surfaces becomes a journey into mindfulness and presence.
